What do you get when you cross the ASUS PA238Q (a standard gamut 23″ IPS monitor) with the ASUS PA246Q (a wide gamut 24″ IPS monitor)? That would be the ASUS PA248Q, which has been unveiled at CeBIT in Hannover. This model adopts the sRGB colour space of the newer and smaller model and fits it into a very similar chassis to the larger model. With its 1920 x 1200 resolution, (likely W-LED backlit) IPS panel and sRGB colour gamut coverage it is designed to compete with the likes of the Dell U2412M. ASUS promises ‘exceptional color fidelity’ straight from the box and will apparently factory calibrate it to under a Delta E of 5 – this can of course be further refined with the OSD that will feature 6 independent colour channels which extend beyond the usual ‘Red’, ‘Green’ and ‘Blue’. Some of the key ASUS features from earlier models, such as ‘QuickFit Virtual Scale’, will also return. This feature can be enabled using a dedicated button and displays a specialised grid-style overlay to indicate actual printout sizes on the screen.
Something else ASUS are keen to shout about is the inclusion of four USB 3.0 ports on the side of the monitor, which is a first of a kind. The stand will retain full adjustability including height, swivel, tilt and pivot (rotation) adjustment and will of course feature that famous red pin-stripe of the ‘ProArt’ series. Further details such as response time, price and availability of the PA248Q are currently unknown.
